Inside a monastery in Kiev

March 2nd, 2011

This is an image I meant to share for a while.

While traveling through Ukraine a while back I had the opportunity to go into the caves of an old monastery in Kiev. Those caves were carved by monks about one thousand years ago, and some of the skulls of those monks are still kept in jars in those caves.

Into the Light

For the last two weeks I have posted pictures from my recent trip to Nicaragua. After seeing all those monkeys in the wild of the rainforest it seems really depressing to look at pictures I took in a Zoo.

My favourite Zoo is the one in Asheboro, North Carolina. The areas for the animals are by far bigger than in your average Zoo, and you actually have to walk a bit between the exhibits, which gives you an in my opinion more natural experience.

Another quick impression from my recent trip to Nicaragua.

This image was taken from Ometepe Island, overlooking the Lago de Nicaragua:

Enlightened Gecko

February 7th, 2011

I just got back from a (well deserved, if I may add) vacation in Nicaragua.

Nicaragua was very impressive – great people, beautiful scenery. Absolutely a dream vacation!

Below is one small glimpse from one of my hotel rooms.

One evening, when I came back from dinner, I found this adorable little Gecko sitting in a paper lamp in one corner of my room.

Look, it’s the Smoky Mountains

January 11th, 2011

Something completely different this week: A few weeks ago I was on a backpacking trip in the Linville Gorge, in the western part of North Carolina.

One day during that trip I climbed Table Rock, a mountain at the east rim of the Linville Gorge.

The following picture is my current desktop wallpaper, a view from Table Rock, in the direction of the Pisgah National Forest and the Smoky Mountains.
